Liaoning Ballet (LNB), established in 1980, is one of the most famous ballet troupes in China.
Liaoning Ballet has been dedicated to producing ballet art works with Chinese characteristics while persistently introducing, rehearsing and performing the world classic ballet works. It has made remarkable achievements in exploring and building the ballet art of Chinese School.
Since its establishment, LNB has rehearsed and performed a total of 19 world classic ballets, including "Swan Lake", "Sleeping Beauty", "La Sylphide", "Le Corsaire", and "Don Quixote", and has the exclusive copyright of multiple works in China. LNB has created a precedent in co-producing the ballets “Spartacus”, “Romeo and Juliet” with the famous Russian leading choreographer - Yuri Grigorovich, which filled the gap in the history of Chinese ballet. Along with performing the world classic works, LNB has taken initiatives to create “Neo-Classic” by cooperating with the international masters, e.g. associated with the “Dancer of Century” - Vladimir Malakhov to choreograph the new version of ballet “Swan Lake”, cooperated with the well-known Portuguese choreographer - Rui Manuel Lopes Graca to choreograph the modern ballet poem "Butterfly Lovers" and "Songs without Words", and collaborated with the globally renowned choreographer Patrick de Bane to create the neoclassic ballet "Notre Dame de Paris". Meanwhile, LNB has produced 17 original Chinese ballets, including "The Moon Shadow in Er Quan", " Last Emperor" etc., accumulating the historical, artistic and popular original works for the development of Chinese ballet art. Such as, the original Chinese ballet "Eight Heroines" of reflecting the spirit of Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, the original Chinese ballet "Hua Mulan" of illustrating the "loyalty and filial piety" national model, the original ballet "Iron Man" of describing the patriotism of one-generation oil workers by taking the "Spirit of Iron Man" as the core etc. These original works have won the national-level awards e.g. Wenhua Grand Prize, the Best Works Award granted by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the CPC etc.
In recent years, LNB has been active on the world stage as a cultural ambassador with international tours covering five continents. Multiple works have been selected as key projects of "Chinese Culture Going Global" launched by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Demonstration Models granted by the China International Fair for Trade in Services, and the Cultural Export Key Projects granted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.
Liaoning Ballet affiliated Dance School was set up in 1994 with approximately 500 full-time students. Currently it is the largest ballet talent cultivation base worldwide, providing a number of ballet artistic talents domestically and globally. Hundreds of outstanding graduates are joining the large ballet companies in Asia, Europe, America and China. More than 98% dancers in current Liaoning Ballet are from this school. Dancers and students from this school have won over 170 silver awards and above in various large ballet competitions worldwide these years, and it has been honored as the “ Factory of Champion Dream”.
Youth Ballet Troupe of Liaoning Ballet was established in 2018 as the first professional youth ballet troupe in China. Troupe bases on Liaoning Ballet, relies on Liaoning Ballet affiliated Dance School, so as to provide a platform of enhancement, demonstration and growth for the future generation of Chinese ballet by means of "integrating studying and performing". It has independently accomplished the performance of several large stage works e.g. “Four Seasons”, “The Nutcracker ” etc.
Liaoning Ballet has always been focusing on keeping the development momentum and stimulating the vitality of company. It continuously innovates mechanisms and deepens reforms so as to embrace various challenges brought by the development with an open, communicative and integrated attitude.
